An Interview With Jane and Lilia

New York Theatre Guide’s Jacquelyn Claire met with Lilia Rubin, creator of The Fall, and Jane Arnfield, director of The Fall to dive into the process that has been creating this show.

Lilia, you are the playwright – your play deals with the catastrophic events of 9/11 and its aftermath. Can you tell me what drew you to explore this subject matter?

Lilia: September 11, 2001 was supposed to be my first day of fourth grade. I remember standing on the playground behind my elementary school with my mom and brother as we waited for the bell to ring. Later, I remember sitting on the kitchen floor with my back against a creaky cabinet while my parents calmly explained that there had been a terrorist attack in New York City. That’s where my memory of 9/11 cuts off.
